What is an online backup?

Backup is a security procedure to create a copy of your data. Normally made on CD's and DVD's, cheap but easily perishable, or on hardware devices (e.g.: USB sticks or external disks), much more costly, but still subject to breakage and failures.
With online backup the archiving procedure happens over an internet connection to a remote server.
