Losting important documents
"Several months ago, my laptop--on which I store basically my entire life--took a tumble on my hardwood floor, which resulted in a large crack in the hard drive. I am normally the type of person to back up my personal data often, but of course when it was needed, I had not backed anything up in about four months. I lost important family documents like our most recent tax returns and credit reports. I lost lots of personal documents, such as saved emails and papers I had written for college classes. I lost all the data for the website that I run. Most importantly to me, I also lost a few months' worth of photos of my son. Thankfully, I only had a few months of personal data lost, and I was able to download all the files for my website from my server again. Even more thankfully, I was able to download some of my lost photos that I had posted to an online photo hosting account. However, some things are just lost forever. Since having the computer repaired with a new hard drive, I have been taking the time to back up everything of importance to me at least once per month, by saving everything on rewritable DVDs."
