Laptop had a meltdown
"Two years ago my laptop had a meltdown. It was a refurbished Emachines unit. I had not had any problems with it before but one day it went into a cycle of error screens. It became a brick, I could not log on, even in safe mode, and soon it refused to start up at all. Thus, locking away all my photos, documents, music and programs. Eventually I was able to extract the hard drive and retrieve some of my lost files. Unfortunately, a good portion of the files had been corrupted and were completely unreadable. I probably lost hours of music, 100's of photos and many documents. I shortly thereafter, bought a new Macbook and how vowed to stay away from refurbished machines."
