I lost my powerpoint presentation
"I'm not usually nervous in public situations, but looking around the vast convention center room from the podium, seeing the rows and rows of my colleagues and potential employers waiting for my talk to start, I could feel my heart rate creeping up and my palms begin to sweat. Out of habit, I reached into my pocket and nervously fingered my USB memory stick, where I had placed my carefully crafted Powerpoint presentation, a summary of years of carefully planned research and months of computational analysis. "Are you ready?" asked the technician, holding out his hand for my memory stick. "Guess it's now or never," I said, handing him the key and stepping up to the podium, into the glare of the spotlight. I knew something was wrong within seconds, as the screen looming over my head stayed an awful shade of blue, the color of the default background. Looking over at the technician, he mouthed the words "can't read it" over and over again. Left with no option, I could only mumble my apologies into the microphone as I saw my opportunity quietly slip away; now I always carry a hard backup with me wherever I go."
