I lost irreplaceable photo in a hard drive crash over a year ago
"We've all heard it before: backup, backup, and backup again! Well, I had every intention of making backups... I swear. I lost irreplaceable personal photo moments in a hard drive crash over a year ago. I'm still upset about it. The drive was a Maxtor 60GB ATA which was installed stock in my desktop. It's not a large drive, so I initially planned to use it solely as a boot drive to hold daily-use software installations. I already had a method in place for storing work files and archival documents on a different unit. I got lazy when it came to backing up photos and home video that were transferred from our digital cameras. It was a task that was all too easy to put off. And then it happened; that unforgettable clicking sound... So, the drive is not salvageable by my local computer shops. It's been suggested that a few grand might be enough to initiate a consultation with professional data salvage experts, which is a little too rich for my blood. I still keep the drive in a safe place thinking maybe-just maybe-some day we'll have cheap technology that can revive my personal memories. And, my current mantra? If it doesn't exist in two places, it doesn't exist! "
