How I learned to save my work This was...
" How I learned to save my work This was back when I first started using computers and the computers had 5 1/2 inch floppy drives, so that tells you this was a long time ago. I didn't even own a computer of my own at the time, but I was using one at the university where I was working on my master's degree. The department had a total of two computers and they were mostly available to me because I was the only one (student or faculty) that liked them.
As with most students who have a paper due, I had waited until the last moment to write it. It was ten to twelve pages long and I knew it was going to get a good grade as I wrote it. Suddenly, as I was putting the finishing touches on the paper, an hour and a half before it was due, the computer froze. Of course, I had not saved any portion of the paper. None whatsoever. It had all disappeared in never never land what had been a set of clearly-written ideas was now only a hazy memory.
After spending fifteen minutes desperately trying to thaw out the computer, I realized that the paper was history and I would have to go to class without my assignment. There is no more naked feeling than to show up to class without a major paper that is due. And I felt so stupid and irresponsible having to give an excuse. I rewrote the paper and saved it as I wrote it. I handed it in late, but it still got the coveted A. But I did learn to save my work anything can happen. "
