HD stopped working
"One of these days I've almost lost my when I found that the HD I was trying to backup simply stopped working! I work on a laboratory from our local university. At the time of the incident, I had the HD from the original CPU and installed it in another unity, where I was backuping all the data from a set of four computers from the lab. I have done this procedure thousands of times with different computers and have never had to deal with this king of problem. This episode wouldn't be so worried if the computer wasn't from no one else than the Professor responsible for the laboratory! After I've installed the HD in the backup CPU, i started copying the files as usual. But, suddenly, some files just disappeared, and the error messages began to pop up in my screen. A few moments later, and the computer answered my last attempt to copy with the "horrorful" message "You have to format this HD in order to use it" or something like it. At this moment I was thinking about jumping out the window from the third floor. All the important files from my Professor have just vanished in the air! After some days of misery and self pity, I discovered some people could recover lost data due to misterious causes. They could not recover it all, the data was all mashed up, without the original directory tree organization. But at least i could say to the Professor, "I've saved your data!", with the proud of a hero, and not the shame of a disastrous computer technitian."
