Disk partitioning

"I have a PC with 160 GB Hard drive. The Hard Drive has been paritioned to contain 6 drives of 20 GB each and 4 drives of 10 GB each. While using Partition Magic software I tried to merge two partitions of 10 GB Each, so that I can get extra free space. The Drives had important datas relating to my Bank Accounts, as well as my Medical details alongwith a lot of Games distributed in both of the Drives. The reason for doing this is mainly of gaining extra free space and reducing the number of drives and as well as of trying the Partition Magic software in this regard. Since one of the drive which I wanted to merge was not compatible with Fat32 creation, it ended up in deleting both the drives. Fortunately when I open the computer the next day, after doing this, I could find that these two drives are present in the system in Partition Magic, but are not showing in My Computer. I was scratching my head over what would have happened to the drives, which are present in Partition Magic and not showing in My Computer. Then, I suddenly realised that it is only the name of the drive that is not showing even in Partition Magic. So I selected the drives individually and named them as they were previously named. After a restart of the system I could find all the drives present in both My Computer as well as in Partition Magic with their original names. I decided, henceforth, before venturing on any of this adventures, it is safe to have a backup of the system through system restore, so that I don't end up with headaches like this one."
