Computer wouldn't boot
"A couple of months ago I had a problem where my computer wouldn't boot when I had certain hard drives connected. I had the case open and had managed to get it to boot, and I wanted to see what would happen if I plugged in another hard drive. Do you know about the magic smoke that is inside the chips on computer components? Well, when I plugged in the hard drive with the computer running, that made all the magic smoke come out of the chips in the hard drive's controller board. It stopped working, with my data on it. I tried buying a used hard drive with the same model number but a different firmware version to use that drive's controller board to recover my data, but it just made the hard drive click when I tried it. I haven't given up hope, though. Some day I'll find a drive with the right model number and firmware version and my data an I will be reunited."
