Computer crash
"I have been home schooling for 14 years and as of the last year, have been saving my reports/ data on my computer. I used to make hard copies of everything, but the paperwork volume was getting to be ridiculous, not to mention the cost of ink has been getting out of hand. This year, I decided just to save it on the hard drive of the computer. The computer I was using crashed. My child's records for the past 8 months were gone. Add to this dilemma, the school district could not find the paperwork for one quarter! I went into a panic. We tried to retrieve the data, to no avail. I tried finding the receipt from the post office to prove I'd sent in the required paperwork. That proved fruitless. I could have eliminated this entire scenario had I either put the data on a CD or by printing out all of the paperwork. All turned out well, though, because the problem was caused by an incorrect date I'd put on the paperwork initially. The paperwork was in the office to begin with. However, it could have been a disastrous outcome had that not been realized. From now on--I will be copying all reports to CD as well as making hard copies to keep for my files, regardless of how much paper this requires or how much ink it takes to print them out."
