"Not loosing your mind when loosing valuable data is an exercise in patience, perseverance, and stamina. I spent three months developing a website. Not just any three months, but the ones that spell S U M M E R! in Maine no less, after having spent a year in the desert. Each and every day was committed to getting the task at hand finished, always putting off that walk on the beach until what seemed like a simple step was done. Well, inch by inch, and step by step…I walked closer to madness. My computer had been swiped clean after the infamous ‘blue screen' had appeared. Reformatted and cleaned out, I made sure to back up everything I could onto my new WD external hard drive. Eventually, the website's fate was sealed. Cough, spit, chug and sputter, things started to act up.
One thing after another seemed to escalate into a full fledged war. Can you say “spyware”? Malicious isn't the word for it, since it was the nastiest thing ever. I'll save you the horror stories of crashes and reboots that spanned the globe while trying to maintain my sanity, and secured files. . Non-English speaking telephone Tech support = system access = major malfunction = melt down. Needless to say, it all ended one fine day. An infection of the worse kind, not only gobbled up all systems on my hard drive, but onto my external drive as well. We're talking GONE…Kaput! Tout finis! Adios and Sayonara!!! The END!!! Good-bye website. The long and the short of it is this I did reach my goal, but not without a major melt down. So the lesson affirms the word of the Sages. “Back up to a hard copy… back up back up back up”!"
