Backup digital photography
"Digital photography is beautiful. The ability to capture a scene and store it away for as long as you want is amazing, or at least I think so. I've always treasured photography, and I try to keep every picture I can. Looking at a photo I've taken, I think to myself "I was there, right behind the camera, at this very second". They remind me of what emotions were flowing through me at that very moment I released the shutter. So when I lose an image to corruption, it's like I've lost a memory. A few months ago, I lost a few hundred photos when my laptop computer unexpectedly crashed in the middle of a backup. The photos were some of my favorites; scenes from my birthday, art, playing around with my girlfriend. From now on, I try to have multiple copies of my images. I try to back them up across at least two hard drives, and on a DVD. Hard drives are faulty, as I've learned, and are prone to failure."
